Crisis Communications and Communications Interoperability

Business Continuity, Crisis Management, Security (physical & cyber), and members of our Risk community are always looking for viable contingency options with regards to crisis communications.  The sharing of vital data and/or voice information across disciplines and jurisdictions to successfully respond to day-to-day incidents and large scale emergencies is paramount.   In actuality, many organizations are challenged to provide timely and effective communication within their organizations, let alone communicate with external stakeholders and partners.  How many times have we all seen that "communications" element highlighted in an after-action report?  (hint:  it's a LOT).

Acts of terrorism, natural disasters, power outages, and software problems can cripple the telephone services of an entire region.  For many organizations, the inability to communictae with internal or external stakeholders (or both) is considered an emergency in and of itself.  During the April meeting, join other MCPF members in a discussion about the Department of Homeland Security’s – Government Emergency Telecommunication Service (GETS) &  Wireless Priority Service (WPS), presented by Steve Seton, RGA.  These resources are imperative for organizations to understand, opt into, and implement before an incident occurs.

Additionally, Michael Schormann will provide an overview of Missouri’s Statewide Interoperability Network (MOSWIN) and how organizations may utilize these networks of communications towers, base stations, and communication software.

Bring your organization’s best practices or challenges in crisis communications and participate in the group discussion following the presentations.

Please be sure to register for the meeting on the MCPF website!
